Accessibility Advocate Creating Change in Government

An article in the Home News Tribune last October caught my attention: Mayor, Chief visit town hall in wheelchairs.”

Jackie Jackson, the accessibility advocate featured in the article, has done a wonderful job raising awareness in a creative way in her town of South Plainfield and in other towns as well such as Edison by inviting officials to experience what it is like to navigate town facilities using a wheelchair. Those of us who take physical mobility for granted may not be aware of obstacles large and small that make life for the wheechair user or anyone who struggles with stairs for any reason.

Ms. Jackson’s accessibility tours are raising awareness in constructive and non-confrontational way.

Since Handi-Lift, Inc. is in the business of providing accessibility equipment we also need to become more aware and more sensitive to the needs of those with physical mobility issues so we have invited Jackie to visit our facility and speak to our staff about her experiences in the real world so that we can be a better provider of Accessibility with Dignity

If you would like more information about Jackie and her tours, please see the materials attached to this article.
